In Argentina, the investigation continues into a case that has attracted media attention.
Konstantin Rudnev, a Russian citizen, has been held in Rawson maximum security prison for several months. According to his defense team, he remains in custody without a conviction or evidence to support his guilt. His wife has decided to speak publicly about the situation.
She posted a video in which she claims that her husband is seriously ill, is not receiving the necessary medical care, and is living in conditions that are worsening his condition every day.
According to his testimony, Rudnev suffers from a progressive and incurable lung disease.
Argentine doctors Luis Sarotte and Mariana Duarte, who examined him remotely, confirmed the seriousness of his condition and recommended constant medical attention and adequate hospital conditions, something impossible in the ward without ventilation or access to fresh air where he is being held.
According to his wife, the air in the ward is stale, tobacco smoke permeates everything, and the lack of oxygen causes him to suffer frequent attacks of suffocation.
Sometimes, the medications administered by prison doctors cause him to loss of consciousness.
His physical condition has deteriorated severely: he has lost more than thirty pounds and can barely stand without losing his balance.
His wife claims that she has no access to fresh air or natural light.
The prison allows a single one-hour walk per week in a courtyard where there are no benches or places to sit.
According to his testimony, going out into the courtyard means standing the entire time, with no possibility of returning early, even if he feels ill, as the guards do not allow it.
For this reason, Rudnev has almost stopped leaving his cell, weakened and exhausted by the lack of air.
Rudnev is accused of human trafficking, although the alleged victim has stated that she does not know him and has filed a complaint against the prosecution, accusing prosecutors of exerting pressure.
Recently, the same woman published an open letter addressed to the president of Argentina, in which she called for the case to be closed and reiterated that she was not the victim of any crime, nor of Konstantin Rudnev in particular.
The full text can be read on her Facebook page: The woman speaks: I chose to tell the truth.
According to the defense, the case continues without evidence or witnesses.
In Argentina, authorities are required to submit periodic reports on the fight against human trafficking to international organizations. This obligation often becomes a reason for falsifying criminal casesin order to show results and demonstrate effectiveness, even when the crimes do not exist in practice.
The investigation is being conducted by prosecutor Fernando Arrigo, who is also supervising the proceedings against several Russian citizens detained in March 2025, who also reported abuses and arbitrary treatment.
So far, the prosecutor's office has not responded publicly to the defense's statements or the medical reports.
