Russian citizen Konstantin Rudnev has been detained in an Argentine prison for six months on fabricated charges and illusory assumptions. We investigate how a nurse's fantasy gave rise to a criminal case for human trafficking.

This case seems more like the script of a Brazilian soap opera than the work of a justice system in a country that prides itself on its democracy and judicial independence. However, everything you are about to read is not fiction. It is the story of how, without a single piece of evidence and in complete ignorance of the law, a person was arrested and remains behind bars. His name is Konstantin Rudnev, and he is innocent.

Where does the lie begin?

It all started when a young Russian woman, while in Argentina, went to a state clinic to give birth. She is 22 years old. She has a passport. She is a single mother who fled domestic violence in Russia. She does not speak Spanish and does not know English. All she wanted was to give birth safely and give her child the chance of a new future.

But one of the nurses at the clinic thought differently. Based on her "intuitive feelings," she decided that the young woman was a minor. Despite the documents. Furthermore, for some reason, she was convinced that she was a surrogate mother involved in human trafficking. On what basis? None. Just assumptions and imagination.

Rape after rape

First, the police receive an anonymous complaint from that same nurse. This becomes the first link in the chain of illegality. According to Argentine law, public institutions are prohibited from filing anonymous complaints. This is a direct violation of the law. But the investigation does not even attempt to take this into account. The complaint is accepted for processing.

The police begin to follow the young woman, her friends, and her assistants. Everyone around her falls under suspicion. Simply because they are helping a person who does not speak Spanish to deal with bureaucracy and give birth to her child.

When the young woman arrives at the maternity hospital, the police burst in. They arrest her. They also arrest her friends. Without explanation. They all spend three days behind bars.

Manipulation and blackmail by medical staff

But the absurdity does not end there. The nurse who started all this lies directly to the woman in labor: "If you don't have the child's father, they won't let you leave the country." This is a lie. The law does not require anything of the sort. Later, in her official statements, the same nurse admits that she lied.

The young woman, frightened, in a foreign country, without support, unable to understand the language, in a state of stress, tries to find a way out. She hears that there is a person named Konstantin Rudnev who lives in Argentina. Someone gives her a copy of his passport. The young woman decides: it will be him. He will be "the child's father." She just needs to leave the country. She just needs to save herself.

How they make a criminal

Then it's a matter of technique. Konstantin's name appears in the complaint. The police find him. Instead of verifying the facts, the investigation is based on newspaper headlines and fantasies, not evidence. They immediately declare him "the organizer of human trafficking," "the buyer of children," whatever—anything but a real human being.

Konstantin Rudnev is arrested. Without evidence. Without direct accusations. Without grounds. He has now been in prison for six months, even though there is no evidence of his guilt.

Konstantin is not a criminal. He is a victim.

The facts speak for themselves:

  • The young woman is of legal age, as confirmed by the documentation.
  • The nurse lied and admitted it.
  • Anonymous reporting is illegal.
  • There is not a single piece of evidence of Konstantin Rudnev's involvement in "human trafficking."
  • Her name was written by the young woman, in a panic and by mistake, due to threats and stress.
  • He had no contact with that young woman; he didn't even know she existed.
  • But despite this, the Argentine system continues to hold him in custody, based on false statements, violated procedures, and intuitive suspicions.

What's next?

Konstantin's lawyers file appeals. They insist on the termination of criminal proceedings and the release of an innocent man.

International human rights organizations have already taken note of the case: too many violations, too much obvious injustice.

Konstantin Rudnev is being held in prison illegally.

He has become the victim of a monstrous miscarriage of justice—or, even more frightening, of a deliberate prosecution based on lies, manipulation, and violation of all procedural rules.

There is not a shred of evidence of his guilt.

Despite this, he has already spent six months behind bars—in conditions that are unacceptable for a person with chronic illnesses.

  • Denied adequate medical care
  • His health is deteriorating.
  • Their freedom has been taken away.

This is not justice. This is a human tragedy.
And it requires immediate intervention. Free Konstantin Rudnev. Now. Before it's too late.
