Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Welcome to the country where you could end up behind bars for half a year just because someone "felt like it."
Konstantin, an ordinary Russian man, never suspected that he would become the star of an absurd "human trafficking" case, which began... with a nurse's intuition. No joke. Intuition. Seriously.
Chapter I. "I feel like she's a surrogate mother!"
A 22-year-old girl from Russia arrives in Argentina to give birth. She has the documents, the pregnancy, the baby bump—everything as it should be. But not everything is so simple in this reality show.
Enter a nurse with the gift of clairvoyance, who seems to have run out of nighttime TV shows and decided to record her own. At first glance (literally), she decides:
– The girl is underage (22 years old, but who's counting?).
– She's a surrogate mother. (Why? Because I saw it on TV!)
– Human trafficking. (Sure! Sounds strong and impressive, right?)
And he doesn't just decide. He writes an anonymous complaint to the police. Let's remember: anonymous complaints by public officials are prohibited by law in Argentina. But who cares about that when you're fighting a crime invented in your head?
Chapter II. Spy games and the fortune-telling grandmother in uniform
The police, with CSI-like enthusiasm, begin total surveillance. Of whom? Of a pregnant Russian woman, her friends, and the people who bring her food. Apparently, a cheese sandwich is the most important clue in the baby trafficking case.
When the girl enters the hospital, the police burst in like in a Hollywood movie. They round everyone up. No explanations. No lawyers. Just because they can. Welcome to the regime of "panic over a nurse's report."
Chapter III. The nurse begins to blackmail him (and she lied, but then apologized, aha).
And here comes the twist! The nurse decides to play immigration officer and says to the girl:
"If you don't tell us who the father is, we won't let you leave the country."
What? Where? When? The law? No, I haven't heard anything about that.
Later—pay attention!—in the official recording, the nurse admits that it was all her invention. There is evidence!
But the show can't be stopped now.
In a panic, under pressure, not knowing the language, and believing the nonsense, the girl grabs the first thing she can get her hands on: someone gave her a copy of the passport of a man named Konstantin. "Well, let him be the father," she decides. Because they told her: without a father, there's no way.
Chapter IV. The criminal according to his passport. A new level of justice
Konstantin's name appears in the documents. What does the police do? Does it verify the facts? Does it interview anyone? No!
He reads the newspapers. And then: "Aha! Konstantin must be the organizer of the whole scheme!" And... they arrest him. He reads the newspapers. And then: "Aha! Konstantin must be the organizer of the whole scheme!" And... they arrest him.
No evidence. No statements. No logic. Simply because his name is in the "father" box, and the show must go on.
Since then, Konstantin has been in an Argentine prison for half a year...
The end. Who is the real criminal here?
Here is the list of what has been tested:
- The girl is 22, not 16.
- She was never a surrogate mother. Now she is at home with her son, her grandmother, and her happy family.
- The nurse lied. And that is recorded in the video of her statement.
- Anonymous reporting is illegal.
- Konstantin didn't know the girl, didn't see her, didn't exchange messages with her.
- The girl did not know Konstantin either, nor did she communicate with him.
- His name was simply a coincidence.
- But he is in prison. To this day.
Questions that are embarrassing to answer:
- Why did they accept the complaint knowing it was illegal?
- Why was the nurse not punished for lying?
- Why does the police act like a bad TV show, and not like a justice system?
- Why is a person in prison because of the fantasy and fear of a healthcare worker?
P.S. Argentina, really?
This is not justice. This is a farce. It is a tragicomedy, where a real person has become a hostage to someone else's fantasy.
Konstantin must be released. Immediately.
And perhaps it is time to start treating not criminals, but hyperemotional hospital employees with overactive imaginations.
An innocent man is in prison, not for a crime, but because of the negligence of the system, confusion, or even the deliberate manipulation of prosecutors. His imprisonment is an injustice that must end.
We demand his immediate release!
If you would like to hear the opinions of Konstantin's family members or ask them a question, please write to us. We are open to dialogue and comments.
His health is deteriorating while injustice continues to prevail.
But you can make a difference.
Your support can help Konstantin regain his freedom and return to his family.
If we all raise our voices, Konstantin will be able to receive help and return to his life.
